Hello guests to Das Compound. I have started this blog in an effort to help create what das compound will be all about.....So far we have the following interested participants. Armand will be constructing a yurt (new design a function of Lillys input). Arno is still planning on going underground (vegas odds were just updated to 10 to one against arno) . Santi is going vertical log (cheapest). Jamie is going into the trees (this will make great pictures for the front page of the blog). Paul has recently indicated he might put a tepee out there (has Becky heard about this?). Herb is going for the do nothing, hope someone will invite him in, end up in a tent plan.....
Thats all for now, just wanted to get things started... sign in and contribute, its a great way to take your mind off of work (everyone except Jamie that is - Jamie, you stay focused on your new admin skills please....

Ok, what's the "buy in"? I also had the yurt idea but thought of bears. Same for the teepee which I have now nixed. Perhaps rent a helicopter and bring in a small frame structure. Can I drive the jeep in there somehow??? Love the blog, keep it up. PRB
Paul, you can get a 4x4 to within 100 yards of property. Arno did it with his 4runner. we may be able to get closer but that was as close as he could get before the snow fell last fall. the trail that winds through the property is really only good for an atv. also, 3/4 of the 40 acres is on the other side of the kashwitna river than the trail, so we will have to wait for spring to see how deep it is. It looks passable. Basically, the best way to get there will be for us to befriend the new couple who bought the Sheep Creek Lodge(that is the big lodge south of talkeetna with the huge logs and all the animals on the wall. We will park our trucks/trailers there and atv in to the property. (15 min ride).4x4 Atv's will have no problem crossing the river..The land is not the disappointing boggy, scabby tree stuff you see so much in AK. It is completely dry, filled with spruce and birch with lots of topography. Right now arno does not want a buy in. He says anyone that we all agree on can put a cabin out there, and he promises not to sell property for atleast 10 years. after that who knows....we will pass the hat at prop tax time (currently 400/year total)Bears are a real concern....Not sure of my final design. Yurt is tempting due to quick setup. Cabin would be a lot of work......
AAAHG, Das Compound! Thinking about it makes me want to fell trees with an axe. I'd like to bring my 30ft 5th wheel to the compound so we can all have some basic shelter while we are building. Does anyone have any contacts with access to a helicopter? It would only be a couple of miles by air.
hello everyone, this is connor. i do not care what when or how we do the cabin deal as long as i get an atv and rifle out of this blog.....
I may have a contact at Era Aviation. I will contact and find out if she can help or you may just want to call them and see what they offer. Could do a couple of loads at once.
Sure sounds like fun. With the right copter could even lift in a couple of small cabin kits.
Ok, back to sitting on the Cat thinking about Alaska, pathetic.
